The Roseburg City Council is still taking applications from candidates interested in filling the vacancy created by the recent resignation of councilor Brian Prawitz.

Prawitz represented Ward 3 in southwest Roseburg for more than six years after being elected in November of 2016. Candidates to fill the seat must live in Ward 3.

Applications are due by 5:00 p.m. on Monday July 17th. Forms can be printed and turned in at City Hall or downloaded and emailed to: info@cityofroseburg.org. The council will conduct interviews during a public meeting and appoint a replacement to serve until December 31st, 2024.

The council meets at 7:00 p.m. on the second and fourth Mondays of each month, as well as for special meetings. As the elected legislative body for the City of Roseburg, the council is responsible for the scope, direction and financing of city services. The council is also responsible for establishing land use policies and zoning regulations.

Roseburg is divided into four wards, with two council members representing each ward. Council members serve a four-year term with one council position in each ward up for election every two years. The mayor, who presides over council meetings, is elected at large for a two-year term.
