A Heat Advisory is in effect for the Umpqua Valley from 10:00 a.m. Tuesday through 11:00 p.m. Wednesday.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service said the advisory applies to central Douglas County and its eastern foothills.

Afternoon high temperatures will range between 98 and 102 degrees leading to an increased risk of heat related illnesses.

The Advisory area includes the communities of Roseburg, Sutherlin, Elkton, Drain, Tiller, Camas Valley, Toketee Falls and Glendale. There is also a Heat Advisory in place through 11:00 p.m. Wednesday for other areas/ covering much of southern Oregon as well.

Forecasters said hot temperatures may cause heat related illnesses to occur. Those planning to be outdoors for an extended time on Tuesday and Wednesday should take actions now to plan for the heat.

The advisory said residents should drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.
