The inaugural Sutherlin Throwdown will be held Saturday and Sunday July 15th and 16th in Sutherlin’s Central Park.

A City of Sutherlin release said the event will feature a barbecue competition, sanctioned by the Pacific Northwest BBQ Association, with up to forty teams completing for $10,000 in prize money. A cornhole competition with up to one hundred fifty teams will be happening concurrently with the BBQ cook-off, fueling the teams for this Southern Oregon Cornhole sponsored tourney, all vying for a $5,000 purse. The third component will be a Brew Fest, with twenty regional breweries offering brew as a pairing for the BBQ. Also being represented are local Umpqua Valley wineries offering the taste of fine wine to the event.

Weekend festivities will include a Saturday night concert with country music artist Jesse Leigh.

Proceeds from the Sutherlin Throwdown will benefit “Youth in Trades” with the establishment of a scholarship fund.  The release said the intention is to develop relationships with local businesses and schools, and create job fairs in Douglas County to provide opportunities for students considering the trades.
