Work continues on the Cedar Creek Fire, approximately fourteen miles northwest of Roseburg.

Rachel Pope of the Douglas Forest Protective Association said crews initially responded to the ten-acre fire in fell and buck timber on private property near Bear Creek in the Callahan Mountains, Sunday at about 5:15 p.m.

Pope said the responding crews aggressive initial attack knocked down the forward spread of the fire with minimal damage to the standing timber. Nightshift trailed ninety-five percent of the fire and plumbed one hundred percent of it with water.

Pope said two contract crews of twenty people each, two tenders, two squads, and two additional DFPA engines rotated into action Monday morning. They completed handlining the remaining five percent and achieved fifteen percent of mop up as of 11:30 a.m. Work is continuing on the effort.

Smoke may be seen in the area as crews continue to mop up. No homes or structures threatened by the fire.

The cause of the Cedar Creek Fire is under investigation.

Pope said DFPA would like to remind residents that fire danger in the Douglas District is Moderate, Industrial Fire Precaution Level is 1, and industrial restrictions are in place.
