Douglas County Commissioners along with Douglas County Senior Services hosted a fifties themed volunteer appreciation barbecue on June 21st at River Forks Parks to honor volunteers from the Bistro Sixty senior dining sites and meals on wheels programs in Winston, Riddle, Yoncalla, Riddle, Glide, Sutherlin, and Glendale.

A County release said they plan to host a similar event to honor volunteers in Reedsport in September.

Senior Services currently has eighty-two volunteers that help at one of the seven senior dining sites. Last year, senior volunteers accrued just over 17,000 volunteer hours, traveled over 50,000 miles delivering meals and served over 78,2000 meals. The recent event included presenting awards in recognition of service and volunteer hours at each dining site and meals on wheels program location.

*Winston: A total of 2,403 volunteer hours with top volunteer Judy Clark giving 272 hours

*Riddle: 3,145 volunteer hours with Suzanne Watson giving 550 hours

*Yoncalla: 915 volunteer hours with Mary Trump giving 262 hours

*Glide:1,594 volunteer hours with Precilia Ortega giving 402 hours

*Sutherlin: 5,085 volunteer hours with Louise Christensen giving 695 hours

*Glendale: 1,716 volunteer hours with Sue Allen giving 472 hours
