Two people were cited on littering charges by Roseburg Police on Wednesday.

An RPD report said a 49-year old man has been parked along the side of the roadway, about twenty feet from the edge of the north bank of the South Umpqua River on Stewart Park Drive in Stewart Park for a few days.

Officers have been watching as more and more trash appeared around his SUV each day. At 8:45 a.m. officers contacted the man and a 20-year old woman who were both sleeping in the vehicle. The report said there was a large amount of trash on the river side of the vehicle as well as behind and under it. The man told officers he had cleaned things up the day before and all the trash on the ground was from the previous night.

Both were cited and released on the scene for depositing trash within one hundred yards of a waterway. They were also issued trash bags and instructed to clean up their mess.
