Douglas County Commissioners Tom Kress, Chris Boice and Tim Freeman issued a proclamation at Wednesday’s weekly business meeting calling on local residents to observe Monday June 12th, as Women Veterans Day.
Commissioner Chris Boice presented the proclamation and said, “Douglas County salutes and honors the service of all women who have courageously and honorably served in the United States Armed Forces”.
Commissioner Tim Freeman said “I think it’s very important to have the conversation that women veterans are veterans. They are equal to and the same as all veterans. They deserve the same benefits available to all veterans”. Freeman said he is happy to see progress happening in providing more services for women veterans.
Freeman presented proclamation certificates to a large group of local women veterans and organizations. The county serves as home to over 1,500 women veterans.
