The Elkton Community Education Center has received $5,800 to support educational programming at Fort Umpqua in the form of an Oregon Heritage Commission Grant.

ECEC Executive Director Marjory Hamann said this includes collaborative projects with Native American educators from the Komemma Cultural Protection Association and the Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians.

Hamann said the non-profit has a full line up of kid’s activities every Saturday at 11:30 a.m. and some special days that the whole family can enjoy:

*Living History Day July 8th from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

*A Flint Knapping demonstration July 29th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

*Fort Umpqua Days September 2nd and 3rd from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The grant to ECEC is part of over $77,000 in grants to twelve museums throughout the state. The Oregon Heritage Commission is part of the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department.
