A Myrtle Creek man was jailed on multiple methamphetamine charges following a police chase on Friday.

Lieutenant Rick McArthur of the Douglas Interagency Narcotics Team said in the afternoon hours that day, DINT detectives, working in conjunction with deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office conducted a drug investigation which resulted in the arrest of 51-year old Randall Slay.

McArthur said detectives had been investigating suspected drug activity and generated reason to believe that Slay was in possession of a large amount of meth. Deputies conducted a traffic stop on Slay in his vehicle, near the intersection of South Pacific Highway and Gael Lane in south county. Drug detection K-9 Trapper was applied to Slay’s vehicle and alerted to the odor of narcotics coming from inside.

McArthur said as he was being ordered from the vehicle, Slay instead chose to flee. A pursuit began as Slay drove away, heading northbound on South Pacific Highway from Myrtle Creek. As deputies gave Chase, they could allegedly see Slay throwing items from his vehicle. McArthur said deputies believed the items being thrown were drugs. Several items were thrown from the vehicle, all of which were collected by DINT detectives who were in the area. That included approximately 106 grams of suspected meth found on South Pacific Highway and approximately 14 grams of suspected meth that was located further down the road.

Slay yielded to police in the 100 block of North Pacific Highway in Myrtle Creek. He was immediately taken into custody. Upon detaining Slay, detectives found remnants of suspected meth on his shirt as well as another 18 grams of suspected meth that was allegedly in his pocket. A search of his vehicle yielded another 6.4 grams, also suspected to be meth.

DINT charged Slay with unlawful possession, manufacture and delivery of meth. Deputies with DCSO charged him with attempt to elude, reckless driving, offensive littering and tampering with evidence in his actions during the pursuit. Bail was set at $300,000.
