Local high school musicians topped the charts at the recent Oregon School Activities Association band and orchestra state competitions held last week at the LaSells Stewart Center at Oregon State University in Corvallis.

The Douglas High School band, led by director Hannah Abercrombie, placed second in the Class 3A band state championships and South Umpqua, led by Jeff Soffer, finished third. The two schools were separated by just one point after the judge’s scores were announced.

The Oakland High School band, guided by director Matt Hill, placed fourth in the 2A/1A competition.

The competitions wrapped up on Saturday and included performances from all classifications in band, string orchestra and full orchestra.
