In the KQEN Cultural Spotlight:

The state convention of the Oregon Oldtime Fiddlers Association is underway through Saturday at the Douglas County Fairgrounds.

A release said several hundred people have come from around the region, making the event the ideal place to enjoy stage shows, jamming, dancing, workshops, band scramble and more.

Activities take place Thursday and Friday from 8:00 am. to 11:30 p.m. Saturday events run from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Workshops will be offered all three days from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Thursday evening there will be a band scramble from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Friday evening will feature a dance to old time music from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Saturday’s District Showcase and Youth Fiddlers is scheduled from 2:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. An Open Mic will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

OOTFA is a non-profit organization. While events are free, a suggested donation of $5 per person at the door will be appreciated. OOTFA is dedicated to the perpetuation and promotion of old-time music. That is defined as traditional instruments dating back to the first half of the 20th century and earlier.
