WINTER STORM WARNING FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT FOR MOUNTAIN AREAS

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect from Friday night at 11:00 p.m. through Sunday night at 11:00 p.m. for mountain areas in southern Oregon.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service said heavy snow is expected with accumulations of 12 to 30 inches possible. Winds will gust as high as 50 miles per hour.

The Warning area includes the South Central and Southern Oregon Cascades and Siskiyou Mountains. It applies to Diamond Lake, Union Creek and portions of highways 62, 230, 138 and the Crater Lake area.

Forecasters said travel could be very difficult to impossible. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches. Occasional whiteout conditions are possible. Those who must travel should keep tire chains, a flashlight, blankets, food, water, medications and a fully charged phone with them.
