County Commissioners Tom Kress, Chris Boice and Tim Freeman along with the Douglas County Senior Services Department are announcing that Jean Miles was awarded the Douglas County Senior Services Volunteer of the Month award for March.
A county release said Commissioner Kress presented Miles with the award at the Bistro Sixty Senior Dining Site on Thursday March 16th. The facility is at 123 Parkside Street in Riddle.
Kress said, “Jean is one of our most committed volunteers. She is the first to arrive and the last to leave”. Miles serves 4 hours per day for each of the 3 days that Bistro Sixty Riddle is open.
Miles has been volunteering at the facility since 2016. She has lived in the county since 1948 and spent her career working for Safeway and Kroger grocery stores. In addition to volunteering at Bistro Sixty, she is a member of the Douglas County Senior Advisory Council and also volunteers at the Community Cancer Center in Roseburg.
The release said Bistro Sixty Dining Sites prep meals on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, at 7 rural dining site locations in Glide, Glendale, Reedsport, Sutherlin, Winston, and Yoncalla, in addition to Riddle. Residents who know of friends or family who could benefit from the Meals on Wheels delivery program or need other assistance should call the Aging & Disabilities Resource Connection in the Senior Services Department at 440-3677.
People interested in volunteer opportunities can also call the same number.
