WINTER STORM WARNING/ADVISORY THROUGH 4:00 P.M. TUESDAY

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect above 1,500 feet while a Winter Weather Advisory is in place above 500 feet through 4:00 p.m. Tuesday for central Douglas County and surrounding areas.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service said for the Warning area heavy snow is expected with accumulations of 3 to 6 inches, except 8 inches over the mountains. For the Advisory area, periods of snow are forecast with 1 to 4 inches expected.

The Warning area includes the higher terrain locations including the passes on Interstate 5 south of Canyonville and Camas Mountain. The Advisory area includes lower passes on Interstate 5 like Rice Hill, Marvin Hill and Roberts Mountain.

Forecasters said travel could be very difficult with hazardous walking conditions expected due to icy, snow covered roads and sidewalks. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute.

Travel is strongly discouraged. Those who must travel should keep tire chains, a flashlight, blankets, food, water, medications, and a fully charged phone with them.
