Contractors for the Oregon Department of Transportation will begin work Monday to remove hazardous trees along Interstate 5 in the Sutherlin and Oakland areas, impacting freeway traffic at times.

A release from ODOT said that the planned tree-cutting operations will take place from milepost 135 through 140. Work is expected to be done from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. through Oct. 2.

Rolling slowdowns will be used in both directions on I-5. ODOT expects most of the slowdowns will take place earlier in the week on Monday or Tuesday.

Flaggers will hold traffic at the I-5 southbound on-ramp at Exit 138 and at the north and southbound on-ramps at Exit 135 and Exit 136.

ODOT said delays are expected to be less than 20 minutes. Message boards will be placed ahead of the work zones in both directions. Drivers should watch for traffic control devices, workers and construction vehicles and debris in the roadway.
