Roseburg Schools announced the official naming of the sports facilities at Roseburg High School during its school board meeting on Wednesday night.

Following approval in August of an agreement between the district and the Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians, Superintendent Jared Cordon told the board the official name is now the: Seven Feathers Sports Complex.

In June, the Tribe and the school district announced they would work together to upgrade the RHS sports complex, offer students language credit for learning the Cow Creek ancestral language of Takelma, and extend a program designed to support attendance among tribal students.

Over the next ten years, the Tribe will donate $500,000 to the district with $400,000 going towards improvement and maintenance of the sports complex and $100,000 towards academics.

Notes from the board meeting said the district administration and the Board of Directors are excited to embark on the long-awaited partnership.
