Adapt Integrated Health Care is warning patients and community members about fraudulent emails circulating that falsely use the MyChart name and branding to offer recipients a medical kit in exchange for completing a survey or answering health-related questions.

The Adapt release said these emails are not the result of a breach of Adapt Integrated Health Care’s MyChart records or patient information. The messages are part of a broader phishing campaign in which bad actors send fraudulent communications designed to appear as though they are coming from legitimate healthcare organizations. Receiving one of these emails does not mean that an individual’s MyChart account or medical records have been accessed.
Adapt has received reports from patients who received an email claiming they could receive a medical kit after answering several questions. In at least one reported case, the recipient was asked to pay a shipping fee. After providing payment, the individual was then prompted to pay an additional $79.
The release said these emails are not necessarily being sent specifically to individuals known to have a MyChart account. Fraudulent emails may use the MyChart logo or other branding to appear legitimate. Patients and community members should use caution when receiving unexpected messages requesting payment or personal information.
Adapt recommends individuals not click links or share personal, financial, or payment information in response to unexpected emails offering medical kits or other health-related items, even if they use familiar logos or branding. Instead, verify messages by accessing MyChart through a trusted method. Patients that believe they paid a fraudulent source, should contact their financial institution immediately and report the communication to the appropriate organization.
Adapt encourages patients who receive suspicious communications appearing to come from MyChart to exercise caution and avoid responding or providing payment information.
