Crew with the Douglas Forest Protective Association and other agencies responded to a natural cover fire in the Sutherlin area Monday morning.

A DFPA update said just before 10:00 a.m. firefighters were dispatched to the incident in the 400 block of Northside Road. Upon arrival, crews found an estimated half-acre fire with an industrial operator actively constructing a dozer line around the perimeter of the fire.

DFPA’s aerial resources, including air attack and a Type 2 helicopter, arrived on the scene to assist with water transportation while ground crews actively worked to construct hose lays into the area.

Quick work by all resources stopped the forward spread of the fire by 1:30 p.m. The perimeter of the fire, named the Dimmick Creek Fire, was confirmed at 0.27-acres. It was 100 percent dozer-trailed and plumbed. Crews continued with mop up then transitioned the fire to patrol status.

No homes or structures were threatened by the Dimmick Creek Fire. The cause of the fire remains under active investigation.
