The Oregon State University Extension Service in Douglas County welcomes the public to The Little Livestock Workshop on August 29th.
The workshop will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Lonely Oak Farm in Winchester.
An Extension release said the field-based Small Animal Production class will feature hands-on opportunities to observe and interact with animals in a working farm setting. Participants will explore daily care, housing, feeding, animal health, safe handling, and essential farm infrastructure. The class will also provide a practical overview of the complete production process, including raising animals for meat, harvest considerations, basic butchering, and the regulations for legally selling meat. Designed for small farmers, homesteaders, backyard producers, and anyone curious about responsible animal production, organizers say this class offers an engaging, real world learning experience.
The event is free to attend, but registration is required by August 25th, 2026.
