The Castle Fire burning on the Umpqua National Forest is now listed at 1,500 acres with zero percent containment.

A UNF update said the CIMT California Team 3 integrated with an international CIMT has assumed command of the fire.

Moderate temperatures have aided in overnight recovery and moderated fire growth in the morning hours. Firefighters are using tactics and strategies that provide the highest likelihood of success while mitigating risks to responders in this steep terrain. Crews and heavy equipment continue to strengthen direct and indirect lines where they can be defended and successfully contain the fire.

All other fires that were started by lightning passing through the area on July 22nd, are in contained, controlled or out status.

The forest is in High Fire Danger, Public Use Restrictions Stage 2, with an exemption for campfires in Forest Service-constructed rings in designated recreation areas. Fires in wilderness are prohibited. Industrial Fire Precaution Level increased to Level 2 effective on Monday.
