A British Columbia man was jailed on the charge of driving under the influence of intoxicants-alcohol on Monday morning.

A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said at 6:30 a.m. the 63-year-old was called in due to falling asleep at the wheel of his semi-truck near the gas pumps at a station in the 200 block of Grant Smith Road in the Green District. Medics arrived and observed possible signs of impairment. A deputy arrived and observed the same and received information from an employee who saw the man driving just prior to medical being called.

The man conducted standard field sobriety tests but only did a few, due to poor balance. He was taken into custody and transported to corrections where he provided a breath test which reportedly showed a blood alcohol level of 0.23, nearly three times the legal limit. The man was taken into custody and detained without bail. The semi-truck and trailer were towed from the scene.
