40TH ANNUAL RIVER APPRECIATION DAY IS SATURDAY

July 17, 2026 3:20 a.m.

Umpqua Watersheds is presenting the 40th annual River Appreciation Day on Saturday at River Forks Park, northwest of Roseburg.

The event will feature live music, local food, environmental education, family activities, art, and opportunities to connect with the rivers that have shaped southwest Oregon’s history, economy and way of life.

After the local celebration began four decades ago, it helped to inspire broader statewide recognition. In 1989, Oregon officially proclaimed River Appreciation Day and the annual event has continued ever since as a reminder that healthy rivers require both celebration and stewardship.

River Appreciation Day will run from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. For more information, email: julie@umpquarivers.org or call 672-7065.
