Crews with the Douglas Forest Protective Association and other agencies responded to a fire in south Douglas County on Wednesday afternoon.

A DFPA post said firefighters were dispatched just after 2:00 p.m. to an estimated 1-acre natural cover fire located near the 500 block of Big Lick Lane in the Myrtle Creek area. By 2:30 p.m. the forward spread of the fire was stopped, and crews had completed a plumbed hose lay around the entire perimeter. Additional responding resources were cancelled. Crews transitioned to mop-up operations to extinguish remaining hot spots and secure the fire area.
DFPA resources included six engines, one single-platform air attack, one Type 2 helicopter, one 5-person squad, a DFPA dozer and overhead command staff. DFPA was assisted by the Canyonville South Umpqua Fire Department, Riddle Fire Protection District, Tri City Rural Fire Protection District 4 and Myrtle Creek Fire Department.
