Oregon State Police has released more details on the early morning crash that closed a section of Interstate 5 early Monday morning.
An OSP report said just after 2:00 a.m. troopers along with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and Central Douglas Fire & Rescue responded to a rollover wreck on Interstate 5 southbound north of the Exit 127 Edenbower Boulevard interchange.
The driver of a semi-truck, a 37-year-old man from Portland, lost control while trying to avoid a deer and his vehicle hit the center median before rolling on its side and sliding into a bank on the right-hand shoulder. A second vehicle, driven by a 38-year-old Roseburg man, then crashed into the semi and rolled onto its side against the center median. Both drivers were transported by ambulance to CHI Mercy Medical Center with suspected minor injuries.
All southbound lanes of the freeway were blocked for approximately three hours. Traffic was diverted at the Exit 129 Winchester interchange. Both vehicles were eventually towed from the scene. 50 feet of concrete jersey barrier was damaged and were pushed several feet into the median on the northbound side of the freeway.
