INFORMATIONAL DINNER ON NURTURED HEART APPROACH TO SUPPORT YOUTH/FAMILIES

Thrive Umpqua, Douglas Education Service District, and the Oregon Health Authority will host an informational dinner on the Nurtured Heart Approach to support youth and families on Thursday, May 21st from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Roseburg Public Library on Northeast Diamond Lake Boulevard.

A Thrive Umpqua release said the Nurtured Heart Approach is a relationship-based method that helps adults support children and you by building confidence, resilience, and positive behavior. The approach is used in schools, youth programs, behavioral health settings, and homes across the country.

Research and implementation data from NHA programs have shown:

*98 percent reduction in in-school suspensions

*25 percent reduction in missed school days due to suspensions

*70 percent reduction in behavior incidents

*83 percent reduction in police notifications

During the informational dinner, participants will learn about:

*Introductory trainings

*Certification opportunities

*Practical tools to support youth and families

*Ways schools and organizations can use NHA in programs and services

The event is open to parents and guardians, teachers, nonprofit leaders, behavioral- health providers, youth development staff and community partners.
