AUDUBON SOCIETY, ROSEBURG LIBRARY TO HOST “BIRDS OF CRATER LAKE” PRESENTATION

May 5, 2026 3;05 a.m.

Umpqua Valley Audubon Society and Roseburg Public Library invite the public to a presentation by “Birds of Crater Lake” author Stewart Janes at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 14th.

A city release said the free public program will be offered in person only at the library, on Northeast Diamond Lake Boulevard.

Jane’s book was published in March by OSU Press. It introduces readers to Oregon’s high-country birds and those most frequently encountered on visits to the park. From the Clark’s nutcracker to the white-crowned sparrow, the guide provides species accounts of the most characteristic birds found in the park. Accompanied by detailed color photographs by Jim Livaudais, each entry also includes the scientific name, description and distribution along with a short narrative. Copies of the book will be available for sale at the program.

Janes is a professor emeritus of biology at Southern Oregon University. He served several years as a board member for the Crater Lake Natural History Association.
