One person was taken to the hospital following a structure fire on Friday afternoon.

A Roseburg Fire Department report said just after 3:20 p.m. personnel responded to the fire in the 2400 block of West Harvard Avenue after callers said there was black smoke showing from a four-plex and some residents may be in need of rescue.

Firefighters arrived on scene to find smoke showing from the single-story building with an active fire in one apartment. The fire was quickly extinguished, stopping forward spread to the other three apartments. One occupant of the apartment where the fire was located was transported to CHI Mercy Medical Center to be treated.

Firefighters conducted a primary search to ensure that no other residents or victims were inside the apartment. Secondary search found no victims and overhaul was completed. A fire investigator determined that the fire was accidental in nature.

RFD was assisted by Central Douglas County Fire & Rescue, Umpqua Valley Ambulance, Pacific Power and Roseburg Police Department.
