The YMCA of Douglas County will have its annual Healthy Kids Day this Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
Healthy Kids Day is a free community event that brings families together to celebrate and support the well-being of Douglas County children. First launched nationally by the YMCA in 1996, Healthy Kids Day is now celebrated at YMCA’s across the country, connecting family with resources, summer activities and year- round programs that promote healthy development.
As part of Healthy Kids Day, the YMCA of Douglas County will be distributing free youth life jackets to families in the community as a kickoff to its seasonal water safety focus. In 2025 alone, the YMCA distributed 500 life jackets, taught over 1,900 individuals essential swimming skills, and brought water safety education to local schools.
Healthy Kids Day will also feature a variety of free activities, healthy snacks and opportunities for families t connect with local youth programs. Highlights will include a REACH helicopter landing- weather permitting, with crew demonstrations, interactive games, and an inflatable climbing tower and obstacle course from Thundering Water. There will also be a smoothie bike, and bike valet service for those that bike to the event from Thrive Umpqua. Attendees can also explore summer opportunities from community partners, including the Boys & Girls Clug, along with the YMCA programs.
