A Myrtle Creek man was jailed following reported trespass incidents on Wednesday.
A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said just after 10:30 a.m. a caller advised dispatch of loud arguing and a gunshot at a property in the 1200 block of Council Creek Road in the Riddle area. She also reported seeing a white passenger pickup with the neighbor’s relative, 44-year-old Orbie Meshew. Units responded and were unable to locate the man or observe any damage.
Contact was made with a relative by phone who stated that she had locked the gate to keep Meshew out, due to an ongoing mental health crisis. Deputies were unable to locate the suspect and no crime was substantiated.
At approximately 1:15 p.m. the neighbor called back reporting that Meshew had damaged the gate and entered the property. While in route to the Council Creek address, the deputy confirmed that the man was not allowed on the property and that the property owner was seeking a restraining order at the time of the call. Another caller reported that Meshew was driving recklessly on Riddle Bypass Road near Roseburg Forest Products and had nearly caused a motor vehicle accident. Units located the suspect driving towards his residence on North Pacific Highway and took him into custody without incident.
Meshew claimed that he went into the residence believing that unknown individuals were living there who shouldn’t be. He admitted to cutting the gate lock. The man was taken into custody. Meshew was charged with second-degree counts of criminal mischief, disorderly conduct and criminal trespass, and with reckless driving. He was detained on $5,000 bail.
