Two people and several animals died in a house fire which began late Monday night in Myrtle Creek.
Chief Jonathan Brewster of the Myrtle Creek Police Department said at approximately 11:10 p.m. Douglas County Emergency Communications received a 911 call from a resident in the 800 block of Thomas Street who said that there was a fire inside his home. Brewster said fire personnel from Myrtle Creek, Tri City, Riddle and Canyonville fire departments responded to the scene along with MCPD and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
When emergency crews arrived, they began battling the structure fire. Fire crew members made entry into the residence where they discovered a 64-year-old male, a 56-year-old female and the animals deceased.
Brewster said the Douglas County Medical Examiner responded to the scene as well as the State Fire Marshal. The fire is still under investigation by the State Fire Marshal.
No further details were released by MCPD.
