A Salem woman died in a freeway accident on Thursday night.
An Oregon State Police report said just after 6:00 p.m. troopers responded to the wreck on Interstate Five near Milepost 95 in the Canyon Creek area.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a sports car operated by 26-year-old Siayrah Jade Steeley was traveling southbound on the freeway when for unknown reasons it left the roadway near an off ramp. The vehicle traveled approximately 400 feet on the grassy shoulder before colliding with a tree. The sports car went another 40 feet down the riverbank before coming to rest and catching fire.
Steeley was pronounced deceased at the scene. The highway was not impacted during the on-scene investigation.
OSP was assisted by the South Umpqua Fire Department, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
