UNF/NATIONAL FOREST FOUNDATION TREE PLANTING PROJECT

April 1, 2026 3:20 a.m.

Staff with the Umpqua National Forest have partnered with the National Forest Foundation to plant 429,500 tree seedlings across 2,255 acres this winter.

A UNF post said planting occurred on the North Umpqua Ranger District in the areas that were impacted by the Jack, Little Bend, Chaos, and Archie Creek fires. Staff from both organizations came up with some creative solutions for planting in the Jack Fire footprint, where access was challenging. Seedlings were distributed by helicopter to six different drop sites on 400 acres, which would have otherwise been inaccessible.
