A Roseburg man was cited for a hit and run incident which took place Wednesday night.

A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said the 70-year-old was traveling on Garden Valley Road at approximately 10:00 p.m. The man fell asleep and his vehicle drifted into the north side of Garden Valley Road, eventually going into the ditch.

The man then reportedly drove through a victim’s fenceline, landing on his property. The vehicle then ran over another portion of fencing as the driver was attempting to leave. The man reportedly did not notify or attempt to notify any property owner. Evidence of the vehicle the man was driving was allegedly found at the scene. Ultimately the wreck caused over $2,500 in property damage. The driver nearly totaled the vehicle, which belonged to his roommate.

The driver was contacted on Thursday at 11:40 a.m. at a home in the 100 block of Darley Drive. He was cited for a misdemeanor count of failure to perform the duties of a driver and for first-degree criminal mischief. He was released after the citations were issued.
