The News Review is reporting:
According to a request on the United States System for Award Management website, United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement is considering rented office space in Roseburg. Portland is the only other Oregon city listed in the Request for Information.
The RFI and its attached Statement of Work describe the announcement as being a step below a Request for Proposal, indicating the inquiry is in the exploratory stage. The RFI invites vendors to submit requests to provide the required infrastructure in writing.
The RFI was announced Friday, March 20th, with a response date of March 31st. The solicitation closes on April 15th and asks for vendors who could supply a mix of workstations and private offices, with Wi-Fi access and printing privileges.
The News-Review reached out to multiple ICE administrative offices to inquire about office requirements such as size, location and security, and why Roseburg was chosen as a potential worksite. An official from ICE responded that more information would become available if and when the RFI becomes an official proposal.
The council chambers in Roseburg City Hall were packed Monday night with citizens, most of whom attended the regular meeting of the Roseburg City Council because of the possibility of ICE renting offices in the city. Mayor Larry Rich clarified for the audience it was not an issue on which the council was going to vote.
