Former Roseburg VA Medical Center Director Patrick Hull says he has been retired for approximately three weeks.

While the Veterans Administration did not issue a press release making the announcement, the VA VISN 20 Public Affairs Officer Megan Crowley has confirmed that the agency is moving forward with a recruitment process for a new leader. Crowley said that Dr. Christiana Cellura, director of the VA Southern Oregon Health Care System will serve as interim administrator until a permanent replacement for Hull is named.

Hull told News Radio 93-9 FM and 1240 that he had been thinking of retiring for about a year. Hull said he plans to take the next three months to do some projects around the house, then will explore teaching and consulting, and will even think about getting more involved politically. He said his focus there would be on optimizing government operations and supporting veteran’s access to healthcare.

Hull spent over 33 years with the VA. That included work around the country, including in Illinois and Colorado, among other locations. Prior to coming to the Roseburg VA Health Care System in April 2023, The News Review reported that Hull served as the interim medical center director for the Western Colorado Health Care System starting in 2019, where he oversaw 1,000 employees and led the system during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hull said now it is time to explore new opportunities. He plans to remain in the Roseburg area.
