RHS FOUNDATION NAMES EMILY RETHWILL FUTURE FIRST CITIZEN

Thursday night the Roseburg High School Foundation named Emily Rethwill as the 2026 Future First Citizen, in an event held at the school’s Rose Theater.

A foundation release said Rethwill will receive $10,000 towards tuition at the school of her choice which is Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona. Rethwill plans to pursue a career as a social worker. While at RHS, she has participated in the Future Business Leaders of America, Family Career Community Leaders of America and ASTRA Club. Rethwill is also involved with Upward Bound, a program designed to help students transition from high school to college.

Four other finalists, Juniper Crocker, Taylor Sands, Elizabeth Kwok and Ryne Wilson will each receive a $4,000 scholarship.

The foundation also named twelve other students who are receiving designated scholarships ranging between $1,000 and $2,000. Foundation grants to several programs at RHS were also announced. That included Roseburg Athletics, the Orange R, the RHS Band, Special Education, the LaCrosse program, and the Future Farmers of America. Grants totaled $10,000.

Former RHS Principal Dr. Jill Weber was the keynote speaker for the event. Weber is currently the Roseburg School’s Director of Teaching and Learning.
