Crews with the Roseburg Fire Department responded to two fires near the Disc Golf Course, adjacent to the bike path, just south of the Roseburg VA Medical Center, early Tuesday morning.

According to Administrative Battalion Chief Chris Galligan, crews were dispatched just before 7:15 a.m. to the fires which were occurring simultaneously. Galligan said upon arrival, firefighters found two separate fires. The first was found to be a trash can on fire, which showed eight-to-nine-foot flames. The second fire was about 300 feet from the first fire. It involved miscellaneous items that had been set on fire. The fire quickly spread to the nearby trees.

Galligan said both fires were quickly extinguished. The cause of the fires is under investigation.
