The City of Roseburg and the Umpqua Valley Tennis Center unveiled the new $2.53 million outdoor tennis and pickleball courts with a ribbon-cutting ceremony last Thursday.

A city release said the project to renovate the public courts more than half a century old was made possible when the city teamed up with the nonprofit indoor tennis center.

The facility offers eight newly renovated tennis courts, ten dedicated pickleball courts and new fencing, lighting, seating, entry way and security system at a time when pickleball is considered the fastest-growing sport in the country.

UVTC President Eric Ball said, “These new courts are something this whole community can really be proud of”, as he spoke to a crowd of residents, athletes, donors and city staff shortly before cutting the ribbon. Ball said, “I truly believe we have the nicest combined tennis and pickleball indoor and outdoor facility in the state of Oregon – hands down. There’s nothing nicer right now”.

City Manager Nikki Messenger said the new courts are an investment in the community’s youth and serve as a great model for more park projects. Messenger said, “We want to build on this momentum. I think this is an excellent model for – if you can dream it, you can build it”.
