The verdict is in: Dwayne Michael Lauka is guilty of murdering Terry Lea Deane in her Oakland home in August 2023.

Thursday’s verdict followed more than two weeks of testimony and involved more than two dozen witnesses, all but a handful called by prosecutors. Deane’s family and friends of Deane attended court on Thursday to hear the verdict.

Lauka, 48, was convicted of second-degree murder and faces a possible sentence of life in prison; that sentence will be handed out at a later date by Douglas County Circuit Court Judge George Ambrosini.

Deane, 78, was found by family members in the early afternoon of Aug. 12, 2023. An autopsy determined she had numerous injuries, including a deep cut to her neck, stab wounds on her upper body, a broken jaw, deep cuts on her head, and a broken finger.
