A transient was jailed following a reported burglary incident on Monday.

A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said at 6:00 p.m. a caller reported a vehicle was in her neighbor’s field in the 100 block of Preschern Lane, off of Old Melrose Road. An older model pickup was located buried to the axles with a loaded utility trailer.

The vehicle was associated with the 41-year-old transient. The report said it appeared the suspect broke numerous boards to make entry to a nearby barn, where he appeared to be trying to put the truck and trailer inside but was unsuccessful.

Later the man returned to the pickup and was charged with second-degree counts of burglary and criminal mischief. He was detained without bail.
