On Saturday, both of Oregon’s U.S. Senators responded to U.S. military action in Iran.

Senator Ron Wyden said, “Donald Trump is unilaterally dragging us into another costly and deadly war in the Middle East that the American people don’t want”. Wyden said, “Trump and Hegseth are putting American lives on the line to make themselves feel powerful, while our military families pay the real price”.

Senator Jeff Merkley called the strikes on Iran, “unconstitutional” and said, “The Constitution is clear:  Congress has the power to declare war, not the president”. Merkley is a senior member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

Merkley concluded by saying, “The Senate must immediately vote on the War Powers Resolution and reassert Congress’s authority. There is one message every member of Congress should make clear: No war with Iran”.
