Roseburg Police jailed a man for an alleged hit and run incident on Wednesday.
An RPD report said just after 1:40 p.m. officers responded after a crash was called in in the 1000 block of Northeast Lincoln Street. The reporting party said a sports car had crashed into a tree in the front yard of a home, and the male driver had gotten out of the vehicle and had fled the area on foot.
Numerous callers to dispatch said the suspect was in the area, running away. Officers located 43-year-old Jeff Reece, who was the registered owner and matched the description, in the area of Northeast Winchester Street and Northeast Nash Street. When officers told Reece that he was under arrest, the man fled the area. A taser as deployed and he was quickly detained. The man was allegedly found to be in possession of a user amount of methamphetamine. Reece was initially taken to CHI Mercy Medical Center for evaluation and then was transported to corrections.
Reece was charged with failure to perform the duties of a driver with property damage, driving under the influence of intoxicants, reckless driving, third-degree escape and unlawful possession of methamphetamine. He was detained without bail.
