Roseburg Police jailed a man for an alleged attempted assault on police officers on Monday.
An RPD report said at 11:45 p.m. while investigating an unrelated incident, officers were canvassing The Point in the 200 block of Southeast Pine Street for witnesses. While doing so, officers attempted to contact 46-year-old Sean Handery, who was reportedly immediately confrontational. Despite introductions announcing law enforcement presence, and illuminating uniforms for him to see, Handery claimed he did not believe the police officers were real.
Handery reportedly suddenly pulled out a knife, and began yelling at officers to shoot him, essentially to prove that they were real. Handery then allegedly started moving towards the officers with his knife pointed at them, at which point a taser was deployed. After a brief struggle, Handery was taken into custody and transported to corrections.
He was charged with two counts each of attempted assault on a police officer and menacing, unlawful possession of a weapon, second-degree disorderly conduct and a parole violation. Handery was detained without bail.
