City of Roseburg buildings will close next Monday, February 16th for Washington’s Birthday, also known as President’s Day.
A city release said police and firefighters will continue to provide public safety throughout the holiday.
Roseburg City Hall and the Public Safety Center, both on Southeast Douglas Avenue, along with other city owned buildings will not be open to the public. Lobbies in both buildings are normally open weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Roseburg Public Library, on Northeast Diamond Lake Boulevard, is normally closed on Sunday and Monday, and is open for varied hours the rest of the week.
The holiday was originally designated for the celebration of the February 22nd birthday of the nation’s first president, George Washington. However, state and local governments often refer to the third Monday in February as “President’s Day”, as a way to honor all U.S. presidents, including Abraham Lincoln, whose birthday is February 12th.
