One woman is deceased following an officer involved shooting in Grants Pass on Saturday afternoon.
An Oregon State Police report said at about 12:30 p.m. officers from the Grants Pass Police Department responded to multiple 911 calls with witnesses saying a female was in the roadway firing handguns, near the intersection of Grants Pass Parkway and M Street.
Officers arrived on the scene and began giving verbal commands for the female to drop the gun, which were ignored. Officers fired their department-issued firearms and struck the female. She was transported to Three Rivers Medical Center, where she was identified as 43-year-old Alicia Shelton of Grants Pass. Shelton was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
No other injuries were reported.
The Josephine Major Crimes Team was activated, and the Oregon State Police were tasked with leading the investigation. The OSP Crime Lab responded and processed the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
The report said as per standard protocol, the involved officers have been placed on paid leave during the investigation. Further updates will be provided by the Josephine County District Attorney’s Office.
