COMMERCIAL MOTOR VEHICLE AND PICKUP COLLIDE ON INTERSTATE FIVE

February 6, 2026 10:20 a.m.

A commercial motor vehicle and a pickup collided on Interstate Five on Thursday evening.

An Oregon State Police report said at 6:50 p.m. the pickup was traveling south on the freeway about a mile north of the Winchester exit.  A CMV came up behind the pickup and could not avoid a rear-end collision due to traffic in the other lane. The CMV driver said the pickup was only going five miles per hour, but the second driver claimed he was traveling at fifty miles per hour.

There was limited damage to the front bumper of the CMV and less than $2,500 damage to the rear bumper of the pickup. The pickup was determined to be drivable following the crash, but it needed a tow, due to the previous mechanical problem. The driver called for their own tow before a trooper arrived.
