Roseburg Police jailed a man for a reported assault incident on Saturday night.

An RPD report said just after 11:10 p.m. officers responded to the 2900 block of Northeast Diamond Lake Boulevard after a man called dispatch and said he had been involved in a disturbance with a victim. The man claimed that during the disturbance, the victim had attempted to grab onto a knife that he was holding, and in doing so, injured himself and then left the scene.

When officers arrived, they spoke with the victim, who was at a neighboring apartment, and had a substantial knife wound to his right arm. The victim said the suspect had taken his cell phone from him and when he went to get it back, the suspect had stabbed him in the arm with a knife. The suspect was contacted a short time later and confirmed the incident but said the victim had “stabbed himself” with the knife the suspect was holding.

Officers located and seized a bloody knife inside the apartment the two share. The suspect, aged 35, was taken into custody and transported to corrections. He was charged with second-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon. The man was detained without bail.
