Roseburg Police jailed a man for a reported assault incident on Monday night.
An RPD report said at 11:00 p.m. officers responded to the 2100 block of Northwest Stewart Parkway after a victim claimed that the suspect has thrown a metal butane canister in her face, striking her in the jaw area and causing injuries. Officers observed bruising and swelling on the victim’s face, and what appeared to be fresh blood on a cut area.
Officers attempted to locate the 36-year-old suspect in the wooded area on the hillside behind the location but were unable to find him at that time. About three hours later, the victim contacted officers again and advised she had returned to the camp she shared with the suspect, despite being advised not to, and had seen the man there. Officers went back to the scene and contacted the suspect. The man denied throwing the metal butane cannister at the victim.
He consented to officer’s looking inside the tent that the two people shared, and they observed a metal butane cannister sitting on the ground where the victim stated that the incident happened.
The man was detained without incident and transported to corrections. He was charged with fourth-degree assault. Bail was set at $6,250.
