AIR STAGNATION ADVISORY 10:00 A.M. FRIDAY THROUGH 10:00 A.M. SUNDAY

January 9, 2026 4:00 a.m.

An Air Stagnation Advisory remains in effect from Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. to Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m. within the valleys of much of southern Oregon.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Medford said poor air quality will continue. This is due to an inversion and stagnant air conditions near the surface that will continue to trap pollutants. A strong area of high pressure will build in through Saturday, then weaken slightly on Sunday. This will lead to poor mixing of the atmosphere and the trapping of pollutants. The high is likely to strengthen again early next week.

The Advisory area includes central Douglas County, eastern Curry County and Josephine and Jackson counties.

Poor air quality may cause issues for people with respiratory problems. Most outdoor burning will likely be prohibited as poor ventilation develops.
