A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 10:00 a.m. Thursday for mountain areas in much of southern Oregon.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Medford said heavy snow is expected. Total snow accumulations of 8 to 24 inches in Crater Lake National Park, 10 to 15 inches at Lake of the Woods, 8 to 12 inches over Mount Ashland ski park, and 3 to 6 inches over the Siskiyou Summit are forecast. Winds will gust as high as 45 miles per hour over high and exposed terrain.

An Urgent Winter Weather Message from the NWS said the Warning area includes the southern Oregon Cascades and Siskiyou Mountains including Crater Lake, Diamond Lake, Crescent Lake, Union Creek and Howard Prairie.

Forecasters said travel may be very difficult to impossible. Road or highway closures are possible with feet of snow accumulation. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches. Those who must travel should keep an extra flashlight, food and water in their vehicle in case of an emergency. Call 511 or visit www.tripcheck.com for road information.
